FAQs
How is counselling different from talking to a friend?
Talking to friends is often a two-way street where each person is sharing information about themselves. But counselling is 100% focused on you, the client.
What can I expect from my counsellor?
You can expect the counsellor to be client centred, work towards your needs, and move at a pace that feels comfortable to you. The counsellor provides a safe space where anything you bring to the table is welcome.
What if I don’t connect with my counsellor?
This can be a normal part of the process, and sometimes it takes a few tries to find the right counsellor for you. The counsellors themselves will be more than happy to refer you on, and the intake team will help you find the right fit.
Can counselling be done online, and is it effective?
Yes, counselling through the centre is done over Zoom and has been just as effective as in person sessions. Through the online platform, we are able to offer accessible counselling to more people than ever before.
Can counselling fix all my problems?
Counsellors are there to collaborate with you, and support you in finding the answers within yourself. The focus of counselling is to empower the client.
How often do people need to go to counselling, and does counselling last forever?
In general, clients may go more frequently at the start (roughly once per week), and as time goes on have less frequent sessions. Some clients only want a few sessions, and others may continue for a longer period of time. It all depends on you and your individual needs.
Is it difficult to open up to a stranger?
If you find it difficult, that is more than okay. The counsellor has no agenda and will work at your pace and move forward when you are ready and comfortable to do so.
What if I have no idea how to solve my problem?
It's okay if you don't know how to solve them yet. The counsellor is there to help you explore possibilities that you may not have explored yet, ask you questions you may not have asked yourself, and help create more choices.
